2009 Financial Statement
Rainbow House Expenses and Funding Summary

This chart illustrates the large amount of support Rainbow House needs from its individual and corporate donors. The local, state and federal economies seem relatively unstable and show no sign of major positive change in the immediate future, and that could have a large impact on our contractual funding security. This year, possibly more than in the recent past, we are in need of your financial support.

2007 Financial Statement
The funding of a non-profit is a challenging experience, especially when the organization is made up of three distinct programs. We have a financial management system in place that includes monthly oversight by the Board of Directors and a yearly audit.

We are extremely grateful to Missouri Foundation for Health in awarding us a $50,000 grant for 2007 and 2008 for basic support, and National Children’s Alliance and Missouri Department of Public Safety have been generous in answering our call for additional funding for Child Advocacy Center personnel and services. The Department of Social Services provides funding to the CAC and to the Children’s Emergency Shelter. The CAC is awarded an amount based on a formula that is the number of counties served, not on the amount of children served. The Children’s Emergency Shelter is reimbursed under contracts for emergency shelter, emergency foster care and crisis care, but the reimbursement rates on each of those are a small amount compared to our costs. United Way, City of Columbia and Boone County government has consistently awarded us financial assistance over the years, and we are grateful for their continued support. United Way of Audrain County has included Rainbow House in their family for the first time this year, and an elected official from Audrain County now serves on our Board of Directors.

As with most not-for-profit organizations, salaries make up a large percentage of total expenses. Rainbow House employs 21 full time and 10 hourly employees.
Occupancy costs include all building and maintenance costs, utilities, phone and internet, alarm system, and any other costs related to running our facility at 1611 Towne Drive. Our “home” is only three years old and was possible because of the overwhelming support of our community! We are grateful to have the Children’s Emergency Shelter, Child Advocacy Center and in-house clinical department all under one roof.
